Top 10 World’s Best Special Forces

Every military around the world has a few groups of elite trained soldiers that are qualified to complete missions that the regular troops will not be able to handle.  These elite special forces soldiers go thourgh long periods of intensive physical and metal tortures in order to become the best of the best.  Below is a list of the world's best special forces. (They are not listed in order because it is impossible to compare special forces.  They are all the best at their specific qualifications.)

10.  U.S. Army Rangers - Formed during WWII to conduct a special rescue mission for 513 American soldiers captured by the Japanese, Rangers today are the only official commando unit of the United States military.  After basic training in a specific MOS, U.S. Army soldiers can voluntarily enlist in the Ranger training program which includes Ranger school, combat diving, moutain warfare, weapons specialized training, SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance & Escape), HALO parachute jump and many more.

9.  French Naval Commandos - They are the equavalent to the U.S. Amy's Special Forces, or "Green Beretes" which is the name by which they most widely referred to.  The Naval Commandos are the most elite soldiers of the French military.  Their training is amphibious, and it can last for years.  They are divided in 6 total units and every single unit has a specific advanced training is a specialty field such as direct action, close quarters sea combat, long range fire support, combat diving, heavy weaponry and exfiltration which includes reconnaisance and hostage rescuing.

8.  MARSOC - Stands for Marines Special Operations Command.  It is the newest special forces unit in the United States military.  The Marine Corps have been trying to not create a special forces unit because in their beliefs every Marine is elite, since the Marine Corps are considered the best fighting force in the world as a branch.  However, in 2006 they were the newest members to join the United States Special Operations Command by forming MARSOC.  Even though new, this elite unit is really hard to get into.  Their initial training consists of 4 different phases that last a total of 7 months.  Most Marines however, decide to widen their expertise and continue training in different areas.  MARSOC specializes in direct action, counter-terrorism, special reconnaissance and internal defense.

7.  U.S. Army Special Forces - Also known as the "Green Berets", this elite unit is probably the most famous of all.  It has been around for about 50 years and they are famous for their particular role during the Vietnam War.  Green Berets are not only trained physically, but also mentally.  They are required to take special classes regarding mental stability, judgement etc.  They are also required to master a foreign language and go through different intelligence tests.

6.  Shayetet 13 - They are one of the only special forces units of the Israeli army, but they are also one of the best in the world.  The Shayetet 13's motto is: "Never Again", referring to the happenings of the holocost.  Their vigorous training varies from heavy weapons to light firearms, close quarters combat etc.  One thing that sets them appart from other special forces is their elite training in martial arts.  They are considered to be experts of Krav Maga, the official/national martial art of Israel.

5.  Delta Force - Even though it only consists of a few hundred members, the Delta Force is one of the most famous military special forces.  There have been many movies made about the men of the only official counter-terrorism unit of the United States military.  These men's training practically never ends.  Since they do not engage in missions very often, they are constantly exposed to new schools and training techniques in order to achieve perfection in all their combat tactics.

4.  Spetsnaz - The men of the Russian special forces are taught to enjoy pain. They are probably the only special forces unit where a member can quit at any give time without any consequences.  Reason being, they only want people who want to be there, they only want war loving monsters who are ready to give their lives in battle.  Their official name is Russia's Special Purpose Regiments.  In special occasions, these elite soldiers also serve as personal bodyguards for high-ranking Russian government officials.

3.  British SAS - They are probably the oldest special forces unit in the world.  They are considered to be the best of the best and almost every commando unit in the world based their initial training techniques from the SAS (Special Air Service).  They served as models for units such as Delta Force, Shayetet 13 and French Naval Commandos.  These men are trained in fields of counter-terrorism, close quarters combat, hostage rescuing, espionage, many fields of martial arts, close knife combat etc.  They are truly one of a kind.

2.  USMC Force Recon - Even though these men of the United States Marine Corps do not take orders from the United States Special Operations Command, they are still considered special forces "capabale" because they go through some of the toughest training the United States military has to offer.  They are true experts in direct action combat and deep reconnaisance.  They are deployed deep within enemy territory without being detected in order to determine the best ways for the Marines to attack.  Force Recon traning can go on for years and it is so hard and challenging that schools like Ranger School are only a small fraction of their intense preparation.

1.  Navy SEALs - (Sea, Air and Land) These men are true warriors.  They are definitely the toughest and hardest trained, most elite members of the United States military.  Their training is very similar to USMC Force Recon, however it can be much longer.  They are specialized in Direct Action, Counter-Terrorism, Unconvential Warfare, Foreign Internal Defense, Counter-Drug Operations, Personnel Recovery, Hostage Rescuing, Special Reconnaissance and the list goes on and on.  Currently, there only about 2,400 Navy SEALs.  Approximately 1/3 of recruits that tryout for SEALs basic course, fail.
