03 – What Is A Fighting Knife

A Fighting knife is also referred to as a combat knife and or a tactical knife. It is designed for close-quarter combat. Although at present, a fighting knife is are also used among other things as a utility, its very essence as a knife of war and self-defense is still necessary. Its features include stout blades with a point intended for stabbing and slashing. This knife is actually used by the military in combat.

The fighting knife enjoys a long history, from the stone age to the war years and up to the present. They have been in use as long as humans had discovered metalworking.

It is a weapon of choice from its beginning as a sharpened stone until it was improved as bronze or steel up until the high-technology alloys of today.

Today combat knives are available in various shapes and sizes. Military forces have standard types of combat knives that they issue to infantry soldiers. Since World War II the Ka-Bar has been the standard fighting knife of the US Marine Corps and the Chilean Commando uses the Corvo knife.
